The Renault sporting philosophy

Presentation

The power behind the GP2 series lies in the 4 litre V8 Renault engine, which sits in the back of every GP2 car. Assembled, maintained and rebuilt by Mecachrome in the same plant in which the marque’s F1 engines are prepared, the Renault power base is the beating heart of the GP2 Series.

“Renault has placed single-seater competition at the heart of its motorsport strategy. From Formula Renault through to Formula One, we have implemented a series of stepping stones that enables young drivers to race under the Renault banner right up to their first Grand Prix. The first stage comes with a Formula Renault car, before graduating to the World Series by Renault. The final link is the GP2 Series, with 612 bhp high-performance single seaters which form the perfect training ground for the rigours of Formula One competition.

Our aim is to provide cost effective, competitive opportunities for the most talented and most deserving young drivers to reach the highest levels of international motorsport. The GP2 Series, with its commitment to performance, long-term stability and proximity to its public, provides an exciting shop-window for teams and drivers to demonstrate their capabilities to the outside world. In an arena of many competing formulae, we are confident that the rational structure of the Renault pyramid will provide competitors in junior motorsport with a credible path to top-flight competition.” The Renault sporting philosophy
